Based on over 40 years of experience in load and force measurement, Strainstall’s Berth Manager system is designed to assist the mooring master by providing comprehensive surveillance of mooring and vessel-related parameters during approach to the berth, and while moored. Sensors monitor speed of approach, mooring loads, weather conditions, oceanographic parameters and detect any drift off. All of these values are processed and presented on a PC based control room display system, which provides graphics and lists of all critical data, and which is available on screens in the harbour office and via fibre-optic link or radio to the ship.
This user friendly software package is configured to suit the jetty and allows the operator to store and recall mooring configurations and alarm levels for all sensors, log all data on the PC hard disc, view trends of any measured parameter, output reports, alarm log etc to a printer, and control remote release of the hooks. In addition to the functions above, many systems provide outputs in a number of formats and protocols to enable easy seamless interfacing. This allows the BerthManager system to integrate to facility management networks, ESD and ship/shore communication systems.
BerthManager has the ability to provide the facility operator with full data regarding:
- The approach of the vessel to the jetty, especially the all-important final speed of the vessel when it impacts the jetty at docking
- Tensions in the mooring lines and drift-off whilst it is moored during cargo loading/unloading
- Indication of position of the quick release hook i.e. open or closed
- Indication of oil level and pressure in hydraulic release systems on the quick release hooks
- Indication of air pressure in pneumatic release systems on the quick release hooks
- Environmental factors impacting on the vessel
- Oceanographic factors impacting on the vessel
- Alarms in the event of parameters outside operator settable limits e.g. high speeds during approach, high/low mooring tensions, wind speeds etc
- Logging of all data and provision of alarm logs
- Remote release of hooks following completion of cargo loading/unloading
- Emergency quick release of hooks
- Connection to the facility ESD system
- Connection to ship/shore links
The Berth Manager jetty management system integrates a number of sub-systems which are all available as stand alone packages. These systems are:
- DockAlert vessel approach monitoring – provides speed, distance off and drift-off data
- MoorAlert mooring load monitoring – provides mooring set-up, mooring tension and alarm data
- Meteorological/oceanographic monitoring – provides weather and sea-state information for reference
