In the early 1970's, Stevens, a Belgian steel company, started to produce quick release mooring hooks for a dutch sales organisation, subsequently obtaining the licence and becoming an independent manufacturer. In 1984, when Stevens was re-organised, steditek was created to manufacture and market the Stevens designed quick release mooring hooks. As market share increased a separate company, AMTS International NV, was founded to focus on the design, manufacture and marketing of quick release hooks, towing hooks and gangways.
In 2002 the company was bought by the Strainstall Group and Strainstall AMTS was formed. All engineering and design is now carried out by experienced engineers based in Cowes, Isle of Wight, UK, with a sales office and manufacturing facilities in Belgium.
Strainstall AMTS has grown significantly, and now, in addition to quick release mooring hooks and towing hooks, designs and manufactures a wide range of standard and custom designed jetty management systems. These are available separately as standalone packages or as part of a fully intergrated system, to provide cost effective, reliable and efficient solutions for vessel docking and mooring safety.
Services
In addition to the supply of mooring equipment and systems, Strainstall AMTS is able to assist civil construction engineers in designing optimal mooring facilities. Our advice is based on the following standards and / or recommendations:
- Mooring equipment guidelines - second edition 1997, OCIMF: Design of Fendering and Mooring
- British Standard 6349, Part 4, 1994: Maritime Structures, Code of Practice For
- Port Design, Guidelines and Recommendations, By Carl A. Thoresen
Covering the following:
- General mooring guidelines - rules and guidelines for easy and safe mooring
- General recommendations for berth designers - guidelines for the design of mooring facilities on berths to permit the largest vessel that is to be accommodated to remain safely moored alongside.
- Calculations of the maximum longitudinal and transverse forces under the standard environmental criteria in order to determine the capacity of the quick release mooring unit.
